The transition from highschool to university can be scary, especially when you have so many questions surrounding applications. You may be lacking crucial information to decide the best fit for you or finding it difficult to reach out without a place to start. Therefore, here are some people you can reach out to for any questions surrounding your university applications!

1. Highschool Advisor

Don’t know where to start? Your highschool advisor can help! They’re a great source for those unsure of what direction they want to take and for those who have everything already planned out. Highschool advisors are well-versed in the application process, and can help with ensuring you fulfill certain requirements and meet all deadlines. Additionally, they can point you in the right direction if you’re debating between specific universities and inform you about any potential opportunities you may be interested in.

2. University Advisor

University advisors are the people to turn to when you have questions unique to your situation or to a specific university. They have all the information about your dream school and any potential questions. Oftentimes, advisors take part in orientations for prospective students. This allows for universities to present themselves and gives you an opportunity to ask questions and initiate conversations. Additionally, many universities have specific advisors for prospective students and encourage potential students to book advising appointments.

3. Previous Students

Have parents, older siblings, or other family members that studied at university? They most likely were in your position at some point, so why not ask them for advice? Learning from their application experience and the choices they made can better equip you for your applications. Plus, you can ask for their opinions on any application questions you may have and hear a student’s perspective on the universities they attended.

4. Peers

Some of your friends and classmates are most likely going through the same anxiety as you regarding university applications; therefore, working together can help reduce the stress. Talking amongst your peers can help find a sense of comfort as well as provide you with additional knowledge. Furthermore, working through and discussing the application process together can help prevent any potential mistakes.

5. Social Media / Online Forums

It is the age of technology after all! Universities love to advertise what they’re up to so maybe give your top choices a follow to learn more. Oftentimes, there are application-specific posts during admission seasons that may lead you to useful information. Additionally, online forum sites, such as Reddit, are filled with advice from previous students. A quick scroll through may give you answers to some of your questions. Here’s the subreddit for Canadian universities to help you get started!

Going down the path of the unknown is stressful, however, with a solid core of people supporting your application process and cheering you on, transitioning from high school to university can be fun. Good luck with your university applications!
